Ahead of her visit to us next week, we’d love to share the wonderful news that Susan Phillips won a Gold Medal at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. The award was given for her beautiful arrangement “April showers bring forth May flowers”.
The arrangement was entered into the Spirit of the Season class. It took as its inspiration the spring weather, evoking April showers with the use of steel grass with pipped hyacinths as ‘rain drops’.
The backdrop of two circles covered in a delicate gauze of wool showcased the flowers, which were displayed in glass tubes and globes. The composition included Eucharist lily, white love-in-a-mist, viburnum opulas, white calla lily, astrantia and freesia, all in soft shades of delicate white and green. A beautiful imagining of the fresh new growth of spring, and we imagine it must have had a delightful fragrance too:
This is not Susan’s first Chelsea success, having won gold medals both at Chelsea and at Hampton Court in the past. A member of NAFAS, she was also awarded their Gold Ribbon for gaining three first prizes at consecutive shows – a wonderful achievement.
Susan is a National Demonstrator and past committee member of Sevenoaks Flower Club. We are very much looking forward to Susan sharing her expertise with us at her demonstration for our Petals Galore event on 12th June 2018. Please visit our Events Page for details on this and all other upcoming dates for your diary.
